Drop the mic!

Here’s what I am, and what I am not:

I am a Portuguese voice talent with a professional home audio booth.

I am a full-time professional, meaning I am generally always available.

I am reliable with deadlines, and I offer a fast turnaround.

I am generally quick to reply to emails and messages.

I am someone who stays attentive to my phone, but if I don’t answer a call or reply on WhatsApp within a few minutes it’s because I’m inside the booth recording voice-overs.

I am careful, demanding of myself, and a perfectionist. But not to the extreme point of never finishing things because I think they could always be better.

I am a believer that I am naturally friendly, easygoing, and I am sure it is really easy to work with me!

I am a friend to many—truly many— fantastic people I have met, and continue to meet, over the years in studios, agencies, production companies, and other direct and indirect client entities, both in Portugal and around the world.

I am not an agent for other voice actors.

I am not a voice-over project producer.

I am not a Text-to-Speech (TTS) trainer.

I am not a studio for rent.

I am not a professional translator.

I am not a Brazilian voice actor. The accent and certain expressions in European Portguese are different.

I am Human. As all Humanity should be, I care about others, but today…  After having many years of VO life experience… I really… Need… To vent…. About a few things I am definitely not…

I am not a father or a teacher to some—fortunately few—rude colleagues in the audiovisual sector.

I am not happy when people demand the world from me, I deliver my part, and they forget to pay.

I am not a Portuguese VA who charges exorbitantly high rates, nor unbelievably low ones, disrespecting the industry’s reference pricing guidelines and, as such, the entire community of voice actors in Portugal, who end up pressured to lower their budgets as well. This risks killing the professional sector in the medium term, leaving the voice-over world exclusively to Artificial Intelligence (AI), with all the flaws and lack of sensitivity, naturalness, directability, and nuances that only the Human voice can offer. If I am not mistaken (sarcasm alert), Human beings are still the ones listening to voice-overs. I am someone who likes connecting with people, and I would much rather hear a real person speak to me than a robot.

That is the question.
